SOS Pantanal has released a book to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the civil society organization dedicated to preserving the biome that encompasses the states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul.
In addition to the biodiversity with animals such as jaguars, giant anteaters, caimans, and jabiru storks, the Pantanal, being the world's largest floodable freshwater plain, plays a fundamental role in the climatic balance of Latin America, as it cools the continent's hot winds.
The 312-page work portrays the main struggles and achievements of SOS Pantanal, which emerged to dialogue and promote dialogue between various sectors for the creation of public preservation policies and the monitoring of the execution of these policies.
The work was crowned last year with the sanction of the Pantanal Law, a series of rules that protect the soil, rivers, fauna, and flora of the biome.
Despite the achievement, the organization's executive director, Leonardo Gomes, says that the challenge now is the management of water resources, in the face of the biome's adaptation to climate change that threatens the way of life, threatens the economy, and threatens the quality of life of the Pantanal people.
"Making public policy is the first step, but now there is all the work to really make it reach the end. To make people understand and be able to claim measures to improve their quality of life, their income, and the conservation of the Pantanal," he said at the launch.
The work can be purchased on the organization's website, https://sospantanal.org.br/
