Emelly Azevedo Sena, 16, was found dead, buried in the backyard of a house in Cuiabá. The teenager's hands were tied behind her back, her wrists were broken, and her abdomen was cut open.
The victim had disappeared after leaving to receive donations for her baby and was killed by the woman who lured her into an ambush.
Nataly Helen Martins Pereira, 25, murdered Emelly and performed a cesarean section on the still-living victim to extract the baby. The suspect was arrested, confessed to the crime, and revealed her intention to raise the child as her own.
After the crime, she went to a hospital claiming to have had a home birth. The goal was to obtain the necessary documentation to give veracity to the farce and, with that, register the child.
But the doctors who treated her realized that she had no characteristics of having given birth to the child.
The police were called and discovered the homicide.
The baby was named Liara and, after being cared for by the Tutelary Council at Hospital Santa Helena in Cuiabá, was discharged and handed over to her maternal grandmother, Ana Paula Azevedo, who volunteered to assist in caring for her granddaughter.
The child's father, who lived with Emelly, will now live in his mother-in-law's house to raise his daughter.
Emelly was buried on March 14.
She had disappeared on the afternoon of the 12th.
According to the police, the suspect had suffered a miscarriage in September 2024 but hid the information from her family and began planning the crime. Prints of cell phone messages show that the woman had been looking for children for illegal adoption on the internet for at least six months.
In her statement, Nataly said she called Emily to her house under the pretext of donating clothes for her soon-to-be-born daughter. The teenager accepted the invitation and, upon arriving at the scene, began to feel unwell and dizzy. At this moment, Nataly applied a chokehold to the teenager.
She then said she delivered the baby alone.
The police are investigating whether there was the participation of other people.
