Fire in Taquari State Park continues to spread after 15 days
The fire that has been burning for 15 days in the Nascentes do Rio Taquari State Park, in Alcinópolis (MS), continues to advance. Firefighting teams have been working both day and night to contain the flames.
According to the Civil Defense, the fire was caused by lightning that struck the region. So far, the blaze has consumed about 3,000 hectares, equivalent to 10% of the park’s total area.
In addition to the park’s remote location and the presence of deep canyons, strong winds have also made firefighting efforts more difficult.
The Fire Department of Mato Grosso do Sul reported that additional firefighters have been sent to reinforce the teams already working in the park. Two fronts are operating to prevent the fire from spreading toward neighboring properties.
Along with the firefighters, the response includes support from local farmers, employees of an ethanol plant, and producers from the region. In total, around 50 people are involved in the firefighting efforts.
