Flor Ribeirinha Cultural group embarks on european tour

After a six-year hiatus, the renowned cultural group from Mato Grosso, Flor Ribeirinha, has returned to Belgium to kick off its long-anticipated European tour. The performances began in the city of Beloeil-Quevaucamps and will continue across cities in Belgium and France until July 7.

Blending vibrant colors, dynamic rhythms, and striking choreography, Flor Ribeirinha brings to life the cultural richness of Mato Grosso and Brazil through a diverse artistic performance. The show dives deep into the roots of Mato Grosso’s folklore, delivering an authentic and visually captivating experience.

Avinner Augusto, the group’s director and choreographer, emphasized the deep meaning behind the international tour.

“Being in Europe to represent our culture and roots is more than just an achievement—it’s an act of resistance, a declaration of identity, and a tribute to Cuiabano and Mato-Grossense heritage. Every time we take the stage abroad, we carry the soul of our people—the sounds, the colors, and the rhythms of our homeland,” he shared.

The group’s spiritual leader and founder, Dona Domingas, also expressed her joy over the audience's reception.

“Seeing people moved, smiling, and applauding what we do with so much love is incredibly rewarding. Knowing that our work resonates with people wherever we go fills our hearts with joy,” she said, visibly touched.

Avinner added that the tour is more than just a series of performances:

“This tour is a collective cry of pride. It’s an overwhelming, indescribable feeling to showcase our culture so far from home.”

Flor Ribeirinha's European debut took place at the Foyer Culturel de Beloeil, with the performance of “Sempre em Flor Mato Grosso.” The group was welcomed by local officials and participated in the event’s official opening ceremony.

Following a local act, Flor Ribeirinha captivated the audience with two sessions of an 80-minute show that highlighted the vast cultural diversity of Brazil. The performance featured iconic styles such as Boi Bumbá, Frevo, the traditional Siriri from Mato Grosso, Dança da Moringa, Lambadão, Rasqueado Cuiabano, Afro-Brazilian dance, and the ever-celebrated Samba, a hallmark of Brazilian cultural identity.

The group remains in Belgium through June 28 for the Festival Mondial de Saint-Ghislain. From there, they head to France to perform at the Reims Festival on June 29 and at the Saint-Malo Festival from June 30 to July 6, before returning to Brazil on July 8.
