Two men got into a fight inside a weightlifting gym in Campo Grande. One of them even threw a dumbbell and a weight plate at the other.
The confusion started after a woman doing squat exercises told her boyfriend that she felt embarrassed after catching a gym-goer supposedly recording her while she was exercising.
The boyfriend, wearing a black shirt, then went to confront him. The discussion escalated into physical aggression. The weights thrown by the boyfriend hit the man.
After the fight, the couple even posted a video on social media where the woman reported the alleged harassment, stating that, in addition to the cell phone, the man was positioned very close to her. The boyfriend then reportedly asked the man to move away, which was not done, leading to the fight. Moments later, the post was deleted.
Images of the fight went viral on social media.
In a statement, the lawyer for the assaulted man denies the accusations and criticizes the release of the images. "The video presents a unilateral and false version, generating a narrative that is harmful to the honor and integrity [of the assaulted man]," says the statement signed by lawyer Maurício Trindade de Oliveira.
According to the statement, legal measures have already been taken against those responsible for the release of the video and the accusations.
The case was registered as intentional bodily injury and will be investigated by the Civil Police.
The gym's communication advisory released a statement saying that it does not condone any form of violence and has offered to collaborate with the authorities. In addition, it stated that immediate and appropriate measures were taken to ensure safety, without prejudice to further actions, according to the outcome of the investigations.
