The Pantanal in Mato Grosso do Sul will receive an investment of US$ 250 million for prevention, conservation, and sustainable development actions. The announcement was made by the state government at an event held at the Bioparque Pantanal in Campo Grande.
The funds will be used for firefighting, soil drainage programs, and improvements in the quality of life for local communities.
An environmental emergency decree was also announced for the state, valid for 180 days, due to weather conditions conducive to the emergence of wildfire outbreaks.
Specifically for the environment, the amount exceeds US$ 74 million. Prevention and firefighting, climate monitoring, and investments in technology systems are among the included actions.
Part of this amount will also go towards payment for environmental services, which will be given to riverside communities, rural producers, and indigenous peoples who contribute to the preservation efforts of the Pantanal.
The Fire Department's Operational Plan for 2025 was approved during the event. 177 military personnel will be distributed across 11 operational bases throughout the state, equipped with specialized materials and equipment, as well as vehicles, boats, and aircraft.
The remaining funds will be allocated to health and sanitation projects, water treatment, hospital construction, rural schools, roads, landfills, airstrips, airports, and programs supporting the development of productive chains and livestock farming.
